Bibles, Coffee, & More

On this page, the Five Day team is sharing a few ideas to help make your Bible reading better. One of the best ways to stick with any habit is to make it enjoyable, and that’s what we’ve got here for you. The items on this page are things we’ve used ourselves or selected for you because they are quality picks that support a consistent Bible reading habit. Even more, they are simple ways to turn reading Scripture into something you genuinely look forward to. Whether it’s a special Bible, really good coffee, or a pen and notebook you enjoy using, each of these can help make reading the Bible five days a week a joy rather than a chore.

Bibles

ESV Spiral Bible – we’re so sold on this idea, and are planning on using it ourselves this year.  Taking notes right alongside the Bible text is a huge win. The strong point here is that you’re not writing in your “good” Bible, the one you use all the time.  You may not want to scribble in it, or jot down a question in the margins of that Bible. But while you’re doing your daily Bible reading and you’ve got the spiral Bible there … well, anything goes and that helps you dig deeper into the text.

Need the Spiral Bible in a version other than the ESV? Use this link.

Here are some other good choices in Bibles. We are huge fans of the English Standard Version (ESV). It combines easy readability with a high commitment to being a word-for-word translation of the text. Here’s a Study Bible – loaded with extra notes and helps that make Bible reading do-able, helpful, and understandable. This is a Student Study Bible in the ESV that is a solid choice.

A good Bible needs a good cover to protect it, and that cover provides a good place to keep your Five Day Bible Reading Schedule, along with pens, notebooks, and more. Here’s a good one for men and this one is perfect for ladies.

Coffee Gear

Coffee and Bible reading are naturally best friends.  Here’s how to up your coffee game.

AeroPress – This is absolutely the Five Day team’s preferred way to make one great cup of coffee at a time.  The AeroPress is infinitely customizable to give you the cup of coffee you like, and it is so easy to use. It’ll take regular supermarket coffee and give you a solid cup of coffee.  If you buy some speciality coffee beans from a local coffee shop you’ll get a fantastic cup of coffee!

A French Press is a super simple way to make coffee that tastes great. It also can make more than a single cup of coffee – you can make a couple cups of coffee all at once.  Try this high quality French Press and you’ll find out how easy it is to make wonderful coffee.

A pour-over is fabulous way of making great coffee. It’s a little more complicated than an AeroPress but offers great flexbility and is a really enjoyable way to make that first cup of coffee.  You’ll need a gooseneck kettle – try this one – and a pour over kit, the Hario V60 Pour Over Starter Set.

Most people don’t realize it but the most important tool on a good coffee bar is the grinder. This Timemore C5 Pro coffee grinder will make your AeroPress, French Press, or pour over sing. Not cheap but so worth it.

Better than the mug warmer, is an Ember temperature control mug. These mugs are a personal favorite for the Five Day team. Stick’em on the charging pad and the cup is good to go for a while – keeping your coffee at the exact temperature you desire and have set through the phone app.

Here’s a simple coffee mug that reminds us how God’s Word is our guiding light, like a lighthouse in a dark storm.

Accessories

Marking in your Bible is important but if you use any ol’ pen it’ll bleed through the pages and make a mess. Use these Bible Micro line Markers – Bible Micro-Line Color Pens (8-piece Set).

Do you need a good notebook to keep your Bible reading ideas and questions, journal entries, sermon notes and more? These lined notebooks feature thick paper that make them a joy to write in.

A really nice pen is a game changer when it comes to writing and journaling. The Retro 51 roller ball is a joy to write with.

Fountain pens are beyond incredible. They can rapidly become your go-to pen for any important writing, like taking Bible notes. LAMY fountain pens are a great place to start.

Here’s a line of notebooks that are fountain pen friendly and make taking notes enjoyable.
